These are flow maps for procedures for enrolling students in the Speech Improvement Class or for ensuring intensity of service for students who qualify for IEPs. Each step corresponds to resources found in the Speech Improvement Class Resources section of this website.

Please note many states and districts may have different criteria for special education eligibility. These flow maps feature San Diego Unified’s interpretation of California Education Code (5CCR3030), which stipulates that a child must meet all three of the following criteria: 1) the disorder has a significant impact on intelligibility, 2) the disorder attracts adverse attention, and 3) the disorder significantly impacts educational performance.
