These Speech Improvement Sound Inventories (SISI) are used before, during and after the Speech Improvement Class for progress monitoring. Each probe includes a protocol, clip art pictures, words (typed out), sentences and a brief oral peripheral examination. These inventories target the later-mastered sounds /k/, /g/, /f/, /v/, /θ/, /ð/, /s/, /z/, /ʃ, /ʧ/, /ʤ/, /l/, and /r/.
Newly added resources include /f/ and /v/ inventories as well as the Sample of Speech Improvement Sound Inventories. The sample document was recently created to briefly elicit productions of the aforementioned later-mastered sounds at least once in word-initial and word-final positions. Following this sample inventory, SLPs may further assess a child's production of specific sounds with the individual SISI for each sound.
Please note that pages featuring clip art or words/sentences do not include the target sound in the margin. For example, at the bottom of the /g/ clip art pictures, it does not say /g/ Sound Inventory. This was purposefully omitted to elicit the most natural production possible during administration.
These inventories are intended for children with mild articulation errors. An in-depth sample of both singletons and clusters is strongly recommended for children with more significant speech sound disorders.
McLeod and Hand (1991) have also generously offered their in-depth clusters probe here. This probe samples all initial and final English clusters at least two times. A transcription form and photographs are included for administration.
